A woman has claimed that her best friend recently got “my full name” tattooed on her arm as a “birthday surprise” – and she is not happy with it.
The woman detailed her experience on the popular Reddit forum “Am I a ——,” A place where people can go to seek advice on interpersonal dilemma. In her post, the original poster (OP) explained that her “best friend of about 7 or 8 years” got her name “tattooed in a very large font on the wrist as a surprise for my birthday without asking my permission.”
“I mean my full first, middle and last name. It is completely massive and bold,” she continued.
OP added that she found the decision “so shocking” that she eventually called her friend several hours later “to tell them that it absolutely must go and I’m not okay with it.”

While the woman said she knows that her friend’s “intentions were pure”, she also emphasized that she feels as if this could be a friendship contract break “Because it just feels disrespectful.”
“If they had asked me about this, I would have said them absolutely,” she added.
“It doesn’t help that we encountered each other at Walmart when I was with my boyfriend, and we were both shown at the same time. He obviously doesn’t like it either,” she continued.
OP finally wondered if she is “A ——” to demand that the friend Remove the tattoo, To add, “It’s just so scrubbing to see my name like that.”
The vast majority of commentators said they do not believe that Redditor is wrong to feel uncomfortable with the gesture of the friend – but also noted that they do not know if it is realistically much she can do about it.

“NTA (not A ——) but it’s hard,” said a person. “You’re not at all A —— Not to like the tattoo and they are really A —— To get it as a surprise, but unfortunately, because it’s their body, I don’t know you can require They take it away. You can certainly request it and end the friendship in some way, but in the end it is up to those who (scary) tattoos to retain. ”
“You know this person better than any of us,” added another person. “If your gut tells you The guarantee against the friendshipI think you should listen to that instinct. Otoh (on the other hand), if you really think it’s just “‘This was a cute gesture that was a little wild for how intense it was,” I think you should consider how close you are to the friend. If you are really narrow and steady with this friendship, it may be worth letting the Tat go. ”
Someone else said, “It sounds like your friend is in love with you. You can’t control what they are doing but you can control your reaction – if you feel really uncomfortable with their behavior you stop spending time with them. What they decide to do with the tattoo is up to them.”
