A woman in Colorado is facing a criminal charge of negligence and more than 50 bills of animals’ cruelty after she is alleged to have left her older mother with dementia alone with dozens of loose and cured dogs.
Jessica Hoff, 47, was arrested on Friday 21 March, in conjunction with February death by her mother, 76-year-old Lavonne Hoff, according to a press release from Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said that they were sent to the mother and daughter’s home, located at the 4800 block in Jefferson Blvd in Colorado City, February 3, after receiving a report on an unconscious woman.
When they arrived at the site, deputies found several dogs running around the house and “another two dozen dogs and seven birds in cages in the home.”
Medical personnel pronounced Lavonne death at the scene, and an autopsy later concluded that she had died from injuries affected in a dog attack, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Lavonne Hoff was reportedly dementia and demanded 24-hour care,” pronounced the press release and added that Jessica allegedly left her mother home alone to drive cases in Pueblo, about 25 miles away.
Detectives said they were looking for another Colorado City property owned by Jessica, where they found 54 dogs and seven birds in her possession.
“The dogs and birds were found alive in unhealthy conditions and several of the dogs had poor health,” said alternates. “The sheriff’s office worked with the animals’ law enforcement to arrest the dogs and birds.”
The sheriff’s office added that Jessica has officially been accused of criminal negligence, which resulted in the death of an adult at risk and 54 bills of aggravated cruelty against animals.
