A man has been sentenced to almost five decades in Florida State Prison for his role in Dead by an officer that was a day away from retirement.
Travis Garrett, 32, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the murder of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office SGT. Brian Lavigne, a press release Shared by Florida’s office for the state lawyer said Tuesday, March 25.
On January 11, 2021, deadly incident occurred after Garrett led officers on a high -speed hunt after a disturbance in the neighborhood.
Garrett, who was paralyzed as a result of the crash, invoked guilty of murder at second degrees, fled to avoid high speed (serious bodily injury or death), battery on a law enforcement officer, opposition to an officer with violence and criminal abuse.

According to the state lawyer’s office, the second degree of murder is “defined as the illegal killing of another person without prediction, but with a condemned mind and breach of human life.”
HCSO-depositors first came into contact with Garrett during the afternoon January 11, 2021, when the then 28-year-old is said to “throw properties out of his apartment window and exterior door” at Paddock Club Apartments in Brandon.
Originally, officers spoke with Garrett through their door and decided that there was no reason for arrest.

But about 90 minutes later, shortly after 5pm, the authorities had another call about a disturbance that claimed that Garrett was naked and harassing neighbors, said Sheriff Chad Connister at a press conference hours after the incident.
When the responding deputies tried to talk to Garrett, he engaged an oral change before he became physically violent and fled from the stage in a vehicle.
Garrett crashed into the apartment’s gates, said Tuesday’s press release, leaving that his “vehicle was equipped with an dashboard, which then showed him to drive down Lumsden Road and accelerate at high speed in SGT. Lavigne’s vehicle when he sat at a stop sign.”
Lavigne was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was only hours from retirement when he was killed.
In a statement about victims of reading in court, the dead vice said that Garrett ripped away the years they had left together after he gave three decades of his life to the strength.
Lavigne’s daughter, also a HCSO postponer, said she lost her mentor.
A foundation was reached to avoid trial.
