California’s prison officials investigate whether a prisoner killed his own cellmate behind bars – at the same facility where two women were killed just a few months on each other during conjugal visits.
Officier found Robert E. Cole, 48, who does not respond in his cell Friday 4 April around 6:30 am in Mule Creek State Prison, about an hour east of Sacramento.

Cole was brought to Mule Creek in 2019 when he was sentenced to life for sexually attacked several children between the ages of 10 and 18, according to California’s corrections and rehabilitation department.
Welsh, 36, came to prison in 2023 when he was sentenced to 18 years for corporal injury to a person within seven years after a previous conviction and abuse with a firearm. Further accusations were added to adding great bodily injury – which included domestic violence.
Welsh has been placed in limited housing pending the investigation, according to officials.

Amador County Coroner has not yet established the exact cause of Cole’s death, according to prison officials.
