Retired police chief sentenced to life in prison for having sexually abused children at wife’s day care

A retired police chief in Baltimore was sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing children at his wife’s day care.

According to Online -Posts for Baltimore County Circuit Court, which was reviewed by People, James Stanley Weems Jr. to life in prison Monday 14 April.

The judgment comes after Weems was found guilty of three bills of sexually abusing a minor, two bills of second degree rape and a bill to show obscene material to a minor in November 2024, online records show.

The charges apply only to one of his alleged victims, who was 10 years old at the abuse, So reported. Weems was accused in 2022 of becoming four children at Lil Kidz Kastle Daycare Center in Owings Mills, Maryland, according to the outlet.

The daycare is owned by his former wife, Shanteari WeemsWho shot him after learning the accusations.

Shanteari invoked guilty of aggravated abuse and carries a gun without a license and was sentenced to four years in prison and two years of monitoring release after the incident, per Baltimore Banner.

The charges against him emerged in July 2022 when his victims, who are now 13, were caught and looked at pornography and said that Weems previously showed it to her, Per Wusa, Baltimore Banner and CBS news.

Weems are reported to have shown her the sexually explicit material on his mobile phone and moralized her, the outlets reported.

The FBI discovered that he was accessed to adult websites near elementary schools, mapped data from his phone, according to the stores.

According to WmarThe girl said Weems was the only person who was nice to her and would give her snack. Weems told her not to tell anyone about what happened.

Wusa reported during the trial, Shanteari testified that the girl was “delayed for her age and mostly kept to herself and her sister”, but reminded of Weems allegedly talking about her and referred to her as his “little friend” and “My little help.”

The outlet reported that Weems denied inappropriate relationships with one of the children and just remembered the girl as a “nice little girl.”

“I wish Mr. James didn’t do the bad things against me. I wish I could stop thinking about them. I just want to be an ordinary child again,” the girl wrote in a statement about victim Imper, Per Baltimore banner.

Weems are still facing over 20 additional bills relating to the other alleged victims, Per Wusa. People have reached Weem’s representation for comments.
