Jennifer Phillips, mother of Markwood’s girlfriend Alonna, has documented his progress via Gofundme. According to Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Markwood’s parents died both young. His father, Scott Markwood, died at the age of 37 in 2014, while his mother, Angela Rachelle Lawson, died in 2023 at 44.

In an update on Monday, May 5, Phillips said that Markwood had taken his first steps that day.

“It’s a slow, slow process, but seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone’s mood,” she added, noting that he had “lots of obstacles forward.”
