Larry Tamblyn, musician and founding band member in Standells, has died. He was 82.
His nephew, Dennis Tamblyn, announced that he died on Friday 21 March in a post Facebook.
“My uncle Larry Tamblyn died today. I have very good memories about him and his family over the years,” Dennis wrote. “He lived an incredible life. He was in a band called The Standells, whose hit song” Dirty Water “is still played to this day when Red Sox or Bruins win a home game. They also played on a section of MunstersHe continued.
“A few years ago, Standells played at Hotel Congress here in Tucson, Ariz., And Larry stayed with me,” Dennis added. “It was so amazing to spend time with him and catch up. He still made music far into his recent years. You will be missing, Uncle Larry.”
No cause of death has been currently shared.

Larry, who was born in Los Angeles, comes from a famous family as the actor’s brother Russ Tamblyn and uncle to the actress Amber Tamblyn. He worked as a solo musician in the 1950s before forming the rock band Larry Tamblyn and Standells 1962, with Tony Valentino, Jody Rich and Benny King.
The band recorded their first 45 “You will be mine a day/girl in my heart” 1963, per Tech Web SoundBefore signing with the Liberty label a year later and changes its name to Standells.
After a few band membership departures, Dick Dodd joined the main vocalist in 1964. The group released several popular songs including “Try it” Sign diagram.

Larry reformed the band in 2009 and the group went on its first national tour since the 1960s 2014, according to the British newspaper Metro. The band released their last album Jab 2013.
In December 2023, Larry was introduced in California Music Hall of Fame by his brother Russ, 90. The late singer shared a video On his Facebook page by him who performs on stage during his induction ceremony on January 13, 2024.
A neighbor to Larry’s wrote On X after the news of his death, “My friend and neighbor, Larry Tamblyn, died this morning … it was completely surreal that a member of the 60s garage punk band like my 80s garage band used to cover, just moved around the corner from me in the countryside.”
