Morris, Movie Star Alligator, dead at 80

Morris lived on Colorado Gator Farm in Mosca, Colo. The farm announced via Facebook That its oldest alligator died on Sunday and explained that Morris lived in the park for 19 years.

“Morris was known for his work in many films and television programs from 1975 to 2006, when he went back to live out his days on Colorado Gators,” Facebook adaptation reads.

The farm was unable to provide the exact age of the celebrity reptile, but estimated, based on his size and teeth, that he was between 80 and 100 years old.

“His exact age was unknown, but he was 9 meters long in 1975 and with his rate of growth and loss we can estimate his age at over 80 years,” Facebook adoption continued. “While we knew this was inevitable, we are very sorry that he went to old age. Rip Morris.”

Farmers and operator Jay Young talked about Morris’s life and inheritance when he held the animal’s head in a video that followed the announcement.

“He started acting strange a week ago. He didn’t look at us and didn’t take food,” Young said. “I know it’s strange to people that we get so attached to an alligator. For all our animals, we also love our cats and dogs.”

“It’s the worst part of what we do and lost animals,” Young continued. “But this is not as tragic as some of the things we have experienced before. He had a happy time here, and he died of old age, and it is not as tragic as some of the family members we have lost here. But it is part of life. Everything that lives must die.”

Morris was discovered as an illegal pet in a garden in Los Angeles when he was about 10 to 20 years old, per CBS News Colorado. He was then taken to the only person in LA with the right permission to house an alligator, and that person happened to work in the film industry.

After retiring from Hollywood in 2006, Morris moved to Colorado.

“Morris (will be) taxidermied so he can continue to scare children for many years to come,” said Colorado Gator Farm in a update On Monday 12 May. “That’s what he would have wanted.”
