A man in North Carolina relies on hope after losing the home he was forced to leave under Hurricane Helene to the latest fires.
Matthew Rogers told us Wlos News 13 This week he was evacuated from his “Cabin of Hope” in Flat Rock, NC, for Hurricane Helene Back in September 2024, just to lose their home for more than 30 years later due to furious fire fires in Polk County.
“I was never late to work,” Rogers told the outletFixed that he and his wife, Rosy Rogers, stayed near the city and lived in the basement in a nearby restaurant after the storm left their area inappropriate to live.
After about two months with temporarily, the three chopt Sandwich shop in Hendersonville called home, the couple moved into a friend’s apartment.
It was only recently that Matthew and Rosy could access their “Cabin of Hope” again, but then the fires began.
Matthew remembered to go on social media on Monday to see how close the flames were to their home. “I woke up and went on Facebook because I had followed the story,” Matthew said.

“I said,“ It’s our house! There is our lake, yes, the bridge is still there, “he continued.” But the house is gone. ”
Matthew said he was contacted by a firefighter who said to them: “Hello buddy, I’m sorry.”
The only thing left on their property is waste and a brick town. Since the property is in an evacuation zone, they have not been able to see the damage themselves.
“The first thing you wish you had is time,” and told Matthew to the news station. “Half an hour to get pictures and your scrapbooks from your grandparents sent down to you. Your family history, which I had, to pass on to the next generation.”
Remaining optimistic, Matthew said he knows that he and Rosy “will survive”, adding that they are planning to rebuild.

Matthew appointed the property following a quotation from prison drama in 1994 by the lead Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. In the movie, Robbin’s character says Andy: “Hope is good, maybe the only thing and no good thing ever dies.”
Hurricane Helene was a category 4 storm when it made landfalls in Florida at the end of September, which affected the inhabitants of several states, including Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia. In October, Death figure reached over 200.

At that time, Kaptein Chad Arnold, who was part of a team that saved people in North Carolina -Mountains, told people that the situation was “heartbreaking.”
“It’s hard to describe. It’s a biblical event, something you would never expect to see or witness,” he added. “The destruction is so bad.”
