The American college student who was the last person to see Sudiksha Konanki Alive is finally home in the US
Joshua Riibe, 22, was issued a new passport in the US Consulate and has returned to the United States with his father, confirmed the law firm Guzmán Ariza to People on Wednesday, March 19.
“On March 18, after the end of the Habea’s Corpus negotiation, which ordered the release of our client, Joshua Riibe, the Prosecutor’s Office in La Altagracia, informed him of their preparedness to return his passport,” the lawyers said in a statement. “While Joshua appreciated this decision, he chose, for privacy reasons, to apply for a new passport in the US consulate, which was immediately issued.”
“We are pleased to announce that Joshua and his father are currently traveling back to their home in the United States,” the lawyers said before later confirmed that he has arrived.
The Iowa -in -born expressed their desire to return home during a March 18 court hearing, which ended with the judge deciding that he would no longer be held during police surveillance and that he was not considered a person of interest in disappearing Konanki.
Then Riibe struggled to regain his passport, but on March 19, prosecutors agreed to return Riibe’s travel documents.
The US Foreign Ministry went in to help Riibe in his quest to return home.
A spokesman for the agency told People that consular personnel participated in Riibe’s hearing on March 18, but declined to give further comments on their efforts “due to integrity and other considerations.”
It would have been unclear at that time if Riibe was allowed to leave the country when his passport was returned to him on March 20 or if he may have to remain in the Dominican Republic for another week.
The judge’s order seemed to suggest that Riibe was free to leave when he got his passport. Thomas Julia from Loudon County Sheriff’s Department told People that there was an opportunity that the college student would have to stay on the island until his next court hearing planned until March 28.
Riibe will also be able to move freely around the country, after being largely limited to his hotel in Punta Cana and was dragged by the police on the few occasions he was allowed to leave the property before March 18 the ruling.

People received a copy of the letter that Konanki’s parents sent to the authorities in the Dominican Republic earlier this week and requested a death declaration and said they do not believe that Riibe is responsible for their daughter’s death.
