Ijustine reflects on early Youtube days and her career now (exclusive)

Justin Have done content on Youtube almost as long as the platform has been around.

The video sharing platform was first launched in 2005 and Ezarik published her very first video on her Ijust Channel on May 12, 2006. While many other popular Youtubers from that time have returned from their channels, Ezarik is still charging obliging content for its seven million subscribers.

“Years before (Youtube) I ran a daily random photo site through high school, high school and to college. And when the video became one thing, I was like, “Oh, this is so cool.” So I had laid out everywhere, ”reminds Erzarik of his early video days to people.

“When I found Youtube it was interesting because it was the first place I saw comments and a bunch of answers from people. And it was strange because I just uploaded to show my friends. ”

A lover of technology, Moniker Ijustine, was inspired by her love for Apple products – which has been strongly presented on her channel over the years. Her early videos (all still available on her channel) are rarely more than one and a half minutes long, originally short sketches intended to be shared between friends.

One of Ezarik’s earliest videos published on her channel was of Original iPhoneUploaded within a week after Apple’s first smartphone was revealed.

Appropriate was her first viral video a minute long review of her almost 300-page AT&T count Following the Smart Phone’s release, which describes each text message, e -post and data transfer that was carried out during the billing cycle. The video, currently at 3.5 million views on Youtube, in the end changed how the mobile phone supplier invoiced customers.

Ezarik says that about two years after making Youtube content, she decided to quit her full-time job. Although she was still freelance as a graphic designer on the site, she says around this time that she began to make an income from the site.

“I would say probably around like 2008, 2009 is when I started making real money and start getting sponsors,” she recalls. “I think it was just meeting. I moved to LA 2007 without friends and no house – basically nothing. ”

“It was a time when we still didn’t know what was happening. We all kinds just hung in the lobbies. I bought t-shirts for everyone there … and we just pass them out in the hotel lobby, and now many times we can’t do these events without security, ”she recalls. “They hide us, they keep us hidden away. There was something so pure and magical with the beginning era before it became everything commercialized. ”

Like most influencers, Ezarik has cycled through different phases when creating content. It was a time when she published daily vlogs and took her viewers through her everyday life. During another period, she regularly charged chaotic cooking videos and used her mixer for a variety of recipes that traditionally do not use a mixer and contemptuously look down on the measurement concept.

“I just change my content to things that I love,” says Ezarik. “I think it has been the main reason why I have been able to do this for so long is that I just keep creating things that I like and that I want to see.”

Since her content has changed with her interests, her channel is full of technical videos showing unreaches, reviews and first appearance – and her love for technology is the only vein of her early content that has continued through her channel life. When Youtube celebrates the 20th anniversary this year, Ezarik is close to celebrating 19 years of its channel.

“(Youtube has) changed more now because I think people take it seriously, as if it is a truly viable platform. This is something that the children are now born and they are like, “I want to become a Youtuber,” says Ezarik.

“Then people made fun of me. People were like, “Why do you and publish online?” “She continues and notes that she eventually got the last laugh in the end as she continued to flourish in her career.” Now it’s more like, “Hello, can we do a collapse? We want to work with you.”

“I think it is powerful because it has received a voice for people who otherwise have not had one,” she continues.

The influencer landscape has changed sharply since she first began to upload videos. Although Ezarik still considers Youtube as her core audience, she has agreed to almost all other social media platforms (all under the same username). She has filmed and produced both long -format and short -shaped content and adapts that many influencers have to the changed landscape on social media.

Although Youtube may be where she is most comfortable, she warns those who strive to create her own platform to become too comfortable in a space.

“Try all apps and definitely diversify yourself,” Ezarik says, recognizing that growing several platforms can be “overwhelming at once.”

“I still do a lot of my own to create and still edit a lot of my own content … If this is something you really love, don’t stop and also do content about things that you love or if you will get stuck to do content about something that is only popular when you may not like. ”

“But Youtube still feels like home, and it feels like that’s where the biggest amount of my audience is,” she continues. “I feel it is the best place for me to make money, but also connect.”

In the end, it is the freedom that Youtube has given her that has kept her loyal to the platform throughout her career as an impact – and she has no plans to stop making content.

“I feel we have this ability to do what we want because of Youtube. As if I wanted to go out tomorrow and film a feature film, I have the equipment and I have the content and knowledge to do it now, she says. “Should I do it tomorrow? Probably not. But just knowing that there are so many others to know that there are so many others, it is so liberating. “
