A 10-year-old Georgia girl has died after a tree fell on the family’s home during a storm.
A’Erica Shukai Dixon was killed on Saturday, May 3, about 3 o’clock local time when a tree fell on the family’s home in Atlanta Gofundme Campaign launched by a cousin, which identified the girl.
At that time, A’Erica – who lived in the home with her mother, lay two sisters and brother – in bed with his grandmother, who maintained a broken pelvis and is “now paralyzed in one leg”, according to the collection.
The home is located in the Mozley Park district, a spokesman for Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) told People in a statement. Heritages responded to the stage for a “possible capture” before being told that a 10-year-old girl gave in to damage from the tree’s impact.
Both the girl’s mother and grandmother were taken to a local hospital in stable condition, according to AFRD, and the US Red Cross has since been contacted to support the family.
“The house just started shaking. Everything just crashed, and I see my mom running through the corridor to get to my grandmother,” A’ica’s 14-year-old sister, Akiylah, told me Atlanta News first.
“I broke down really bad because it wasn’t just my little sister. It was my best friend,” she added.

According to the outlet, the police, firefighters and Fulton County remained medical examination offices for several hours when the crews tried to remove the tree.
Anaré Holmes, a spokesman for AFRD, first told Atlanta News that the 10-year-old’s death was a “tragedy” with “no other way to see it.”

“This morning we are saddened by the young girl’s tragic passing as a result of tonight’s storms,” wrote Georgia -Governor Brian Kemp in A post on x. “We pray that all Georgians go with us to pray for their loved ones during this difficult time.”
Pictures from the stage, split by NBC Affiliate Wxiashowed warning tape around the large tree. According to the outlet, some of the tree fell earlier under Hurricane Helene last year and crushed into the family’s white SUV.
“The landlord was informed of it, and they would cut the whole inside the tree so that this would not happen again,” a family member told WXIA. “And no one ever came back to cut it down.”
The relative found that the tragedy “feels like a dream that we have to wake up from” and that A’ica’s mother must calm in the hospital given the circumstances. “Because every time she wakes up, she turns out about her child,” she said.
A’Erica, whose family referred to her as Tink, lost her father two years ago, Per Gofundme. Her family remembered her as “a very happy child”, a cheerleader and someone who loved to dance, film Tiktoks and play with their toys.

“We are trying to raise money at this difficult time to help bury my lil cousin. Unfortunately, her mother cannot afford to bury A’Erica right now. Her death was unexpected, now we have to ask for help,” said the collection message.
“The family would appreciate all donations for the funeral costs for A’Erica,” the message continued. Everything is much appreciated. Thanks. ”
The Dixon family has since collected more than $ 18,000 to a current target of $ 28,000 as of Sunday, May 4.
