Wanda Barzee, the woman who helped Keep Elizabeth Smart Captive for nine monthsIs in Utah’s register for sex offenders – and it seems that she could not be happier with it.
Barzee, 79, is seen brilliantly against the camera in an updated mugshot for the gender crime register, which provides information to the public, law enforcement agencies, companies and other units on sex criminals in the state and are Publicly available online.
Those in the register in Utah must check out twice a year – once on the birthday and then again exactly six months later. In these check -ups, they can take new photographs if their appearance is significantly different.
Barzee is now obliged to make weekly checks after her arrest for allegedly visiting parks in Salt Lake City, which she is limited from doing because of her status as a registered gender offender.

“Detective developed information that Barzee is said to have visited at least two parks in Salt Lake City, including Liberty Park and Sugar House Park, in violation of state law,” Brent Weisberg, spokesman for the department, told People.
Barzee was later released on legal orders. However, SLCP said it will continue to monitor this situation as part of a joint effort with other agencies.
“Although the criminal prosecution on this issue remains our priority, our SLCPD-social workers and crisis intervention detectives will continue to use our co-response model to ensure that appropriate resources and security plans are made available as the case progresses through the legal system,” said Weisberg.

Barzee was originally arrested with his husband, Brian David Mitchell, in 2003 after they kidnapped Smart in 2002 and held her captivity for almost a year, moved between rounded houses and abandoned campsites in Utah and the San Diego area.
During the time that Smart was held in captivity, she was subjected to almost daily sexual abuse by Mitchell. Smart discussed Barzee’s participation in the assaults and said she would encourage her husband and often be present while the teenager was abused by Mitchell.

The public was warned to Mitchell and Barzee’s identity after Smart’s sister, who witnessed the kidnapping, recalled that the man whose voice she heard that night was the same man who had previously been hired to do work at home.
Photos of Mitchell and Barzee then ran on America’s most sought after About the same time, the two began to emerge publicly with smart, which led to a person recognizing the couple and contacting the authorities.
Although he was arrested in 2003, Barzee did not stand for federal allegations until 2009 and state charges until 2010.
Before that, she had been considered mentally inappropriate, and in 2006 a judge in Utah with forced medication Barzee signed that she may be competent to stand in trial.
It seemed to work, and in 2009 she cited a guilty basis for federal allegations of kidnapping and attraction of a minor.
She also reached an agreement with prosecutors and agreed to testify against Mitchell at his state and federal trials.
In 2010, she pleaded for an appeal for worsened kidnapping in Utah.
Barzee then went to Texas, where she served her federal sentence until 2016, when she returned to Utah.
Two years later, Barzee was released from prison, after receiving credit for the seven years she spent in detention before both her penalties.
That release date came as a surprise to Smart, who said in interviews at the time that she had not expected Barzee to be released from prison until 2024.
In an interview in 2018 with CBS this morningSmart claimed that Barzee was still worshiped Mitchell.
She told Gayle King that prison sources are said to inform her that Barzee was still carrying a “book with revelations” that Mitchell wrote while posing as a Christ -like religious figure.
“To hear that she is still wearing it around and still sticks to me, sticks to it. I think it is very uncomfortable,” Smart said. “I think she is a danger because she has clearly not released it.
“She is still a big threat, and not just for me but for the public in general,” Smart said about Barzee. “I mean, to all people who are vulnerable out there.”
