David Foster, 75, reveals that he has gone up ’65 flights’ to avoid lifts

In a new interview with Wall Street JournalThe Grammy-winning musician opened his fear of lifts and revealed that he has gone up “65 flights” of the stairs earlier to avoid them.

The subject came up as a fetus, 75, was asked about his training routine. “I’m trying to go to the gym three times a week,” he said. “I literally never take a lift. It’s claustrophobia.”

The composer “I have nothing” noted that he is just “been in an elevator five times” as an adult. “Three of these were for surgery at the hospital. I was drugged, so it was okay,” he explained. “The others twice were extraordinary circumstances.”

Foster remembered to take a lift against their will on opera singer Luciano Pavarotti’s New York City residence on the 20th floor of a building.

“I worked with him and Céline (Dion) On a duet and then the wine floats, everyone drinks and I said, “I’m leaving now,” and I started going by the stairs, “he said.” And he goes, “No. Today you don’t, today you take the elevator.”

Pavarotti then took him into a “small elevator with a small place” inside. “He sits down, he grabs me, he pulls me on his knee, and he sings ‘Ave Maria’ in my F -ing ears so loudly. I mean, Pavarottis sings to me all the way down,” continued fetus and led him to “taken millions of stairs in my life.”

As for the highest building he has gone up to avoid lifts, Foster told WSJ It’s Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore, where he stayed during his time as a judge at Asia has talent: “Sometimes I wanted to go to the pool, so I would go up on 65 flights to get to the pool.”

Foster celebrated 75 years in November 2024 and told People at the time that the milestone had not yet “caught” with him. But he was a little busy with a festive collection as well as a Hollywood Bowl concert with his wife Katharine McPhee as well as Kristin ChenowethThe Josh GrobanAnd Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bubble and Jennifer Hudson.

The concert night said Foster, “I think maybe tomorrow I think I have just turned 75.”
