Three people are dead, two injured and one is missing after a boat enclosed and sank by the state of Island in New York on Sunday 23 February, according to reports from several stores including NBC News and Sky News.
The US Coast Guard responded to a 911 call about a “ship taking water” near Breezy Point in Queens approximately 12:04 on Sunday, February 23, according to one press release.
“The Coast Guard guard issued an urgent marine information that was sent and inserted three rescue boats from the Coast Guard New York and Station Sandy Hook and an MH-65 helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City,” said US Coast Guard.
Five people were recovered at the site with four “respondents”, according to the publication.
The Coast Guard administered CPR to some of the victims before two people were lifted to the State of Island University Hospital and three were sent to the Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook and treated by medical teams.
Three people were originally reported to have died after the incident, per ABC 7 New York. They were pronounced dead in hospital, ABC News reported.
One of the two injured parties is also believed to be in critical condition, according to reports.
The American Coast Guard said they were still looking for another person “in the water about five miles southeast of Breezy Point”, according to the publication, and the New York Police Department, New York City Fire Department and New Jersey State Police help the Coast Guard in their search operation.

Cecilio Adama’s husband was identified as one of the victims, according to the outlet. She told CBS News that he fished with five friends. “At 10 o’clock; 00 am I called him. I said, “Is everything ok?” He said, “Oh, there is a lot of wind,” she reminded.
The reason for the sinking is unknown at present and the investigation is ongoing, ABC News reported.
