2 men accused of having deceived, killed older man whose remains were found in the yard



Two men are accused of swindling an older Florida man of large amounts of money before killing him and dismantling his body, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Joseph Romano, 71, was reported missing on January 16. Police later realized that a man named Joseph Schiliro, 45, tried to pick up Romano’s post from the apartment complex where he lived Per publishing.

Investigates further, detective found that large sums of money is alleged to be transferred from Romano’s accounts to accounts linked to Schiliro – and another suspect, Silviano Christman, was with Schiliro during that time. Christman had flew to Tampa from New York on January 3.

Romano’s downed body was later found buried in Schiliri’s garden in Valrico, Florida, February 13, says the publication.

“This is a terrible case where an elderly person was exploited, and in the end he lost his life to two suspects who committed a disgusting crime,” Caitlin Wilson told HCSO Fox 13 News.

It is unclear how Christman, Schiliro and the victim knew each other.

Christman was arrested by the New York Police Department of Regional Fugitive Task Force on February 20, and the US marshals arrested Schiliro in Pinellas County the following day.

“The measures of these two men are despicable and deeply disturbing. Through fraud and violence, they exploited and took the lives of another individual,” Sheriff Chad Chronister claimed in a statement. “Thanks to the determined efforts of our detectives and law enforcement partners, they are both now behind bars. We are still involved in seeking justice for the victim and his loved ones.”

Both men have been accused of excessive murder at first degree, along with conspiracy to commit excessive first degree killings, burglary with battery and fraudulent use of personal identifiable information about a deceased person. Each man also faces different extra fees.

Christman is currently being held in a New York City prison and Schiliro is held in a prison in Pinella’s County.
