Two children have died and three others in hospital after sleeping in a van in the middle of Detroit’s cold weather.
A 2-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy were among the five children who lived in the vehicle NBC News reported. Their mother had pulled into the Hollywood Casino parking garage at Greektown at about 1 Monday 10 February, but ended on gasoline some time after, according to Fox 2.
She realized around 12 o’clock that her 9-year-old was not breathing, Per CBS Detroit. After calling a family member to help take the child to the hospital, she then discovered that her 2-year-old also did not breathe.
“And so that the person conveyed both children to the Children’s Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased, with the early indicator was that they froze to death,” said Detroit Police Capt. Nathan Dude per NBC News.
The other three children – ages 13, 8 and 4, according to Fox 2 – were treated in the hospital but are in stable condition.

According to the National Weather Service, the Detroit weather was reportedly about 12 degrees during the early hours on Monday, with wind cooling at 6 degrees.
The authorities confirmed that it will be investigated by deaths and accusations for the mother will not be excluded Per CBS Detroit.

According to Fox 2, the mother was arrested and gave a statement, but she is currently not in custody.
“It must be (examined),” Duda told NBC News. “I don’t think anyone really wants to think about it right now when the two children passed, but the reality is that the circumstances have to be investigated. We need to find out how to move forward. ”
The family also lived on Detroit’s eastern side, but it seemed to have been a while since they lived there, according to Fox 2. The authorities suspect that mother and child had lived in the van for a couple of months.
People who risk homelessness are recommended to seek protection or churches for help. Duda also urges people to call the police if they see someone sleeping roughly in the cold.
“We will show up with all the right people to offer resources, transporting, feeding, dressing, to provide that person’s protection,” said Duda, Per NBC News. “We care.”
