Zara responds to backlash over controversial ads with “unhealthy thin” models

“We note ASA’s decision after an individual complaint about two pictures on our website, which we removed when ASA made us conscious,” said a spokesman for Zara in the statement.

“We are engaged in responsible content and follow strict guidelines and checks in the choice and photography of models, as well as in the choice of images,” the statement continued.

Zara also noted that they follow “key recommendations” from the British model Health Enquiry, which says that models “should provide a medical certificate that certifies their good health”, to which the brand confirmed this commitment where “maintained” in this case.

“We also ensure a healthy backstage environment in line with these recommendations,” according to the dealer.

The images that were removed were only available on Zara’s website. As a policy, the fashion brand does not advertise outside its own platforms and channels. ”
