There are many good TV shows on the air right now, but ABCs Will Trent Can only be the best-and not just because the role contains a small, stage-stalking chihuahua called Betty.
Located in a version of Atlanta where people can wear three -part costumes, sweater vests and scarves all year round without dying from heat fatigue, the series focuses on special agent comes Trent by Georgia Bureu of Investigations (GBI). That played by Ramón RodríguezWill is protected, even haunted, but always searches for a way to make the world a safer place.
After growing up in fetal care where he was placed in a series of abusive home, he has a fine -tuned sense of justice and he thinks no one is over the law, including his colleagues.
As a long -term TV fan that has seen almost every iteration of the anti -hero come and go, Wills is unmatched devotion to maintain the law’s letter refreshing, even when it crushes my heart (and his) as it did when arresting the love for his life, Angie Poraski (Erika Christensen), at the end of season 2.
Will is a good man. But he is not perfect. In fact, just like the incredible role of characters he is surrounded by, he is a little mess.

Nowhere has it been made clearer than in Season 3, the show’s boldest, most risky season so far. In previous years, Will Trent Has presented an overall mystery along with its case of this week’s story, but season 3 is held more together by a singular theme than any story. And that theme is a pretty high for a network -TV show: “Do you want to be here?”
In the 16th episode of the season, Wills therapist, played by Margaret ChoDoes this question ask Will: Does he want to be alive? Does he want to live with his heart damage, his mistakes, his regrets, his pain? And if he does, is he willing to put in the work not only to survive, but really live his life?
The question comes after will accidentally be shot and killed a 14-year-old boy who met while Will and his partner, Faith (Iantha Richardson), were in the hunt for a suspect. The boy, Marco, dies in his arms when he and faith tries to rush the teenager to the hospital. It is an upcoming moment in a section that will earn Rodríguez, 45, an Emmy nomination if there is any justice.

Although he has been cleared for something wrong, Will is destroyed by Marco’s death. He has said it was a “pure shoot”, but it will not bring the teenager back.
His boss/mentor/surrogate mother Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn) tells him: “You are so mean to yourself, coming. What if I was the one who accidentally killed a child? What if it was Poraski or faith? What would you say to them? I think you would support them and be there for them.” Help them. ”
But will not know how to be kind to yourself. Neither Angie, who has to do with her own downward spiral after regaining her job after a case has gone wrong during season 2. After the death of her abusive mother, she loses her sobriety and discovers that she is pregnant the same week. Again, she led to her lowest point, she is also facing the question of whether she can choose to really live in front of the mountain of Pain Mountain she has experienced.
Will Trent Is not afraid to handle heavy topic, but it is not a bleak show. Each episode has a new – often cheeky – title card, and one of the season’s prominent moments contained the whole role that participated in a musical moment that included disco dance and a talking Betty (she is British, who knew?).
More than that, the show has created a found family in their Tras tag group of characters. Will, Angie, Faith and Amanda, as well as detective Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) and Betty’s pet-sitting Nico (Cora Lu Tran), are available for each other even though they can’t stand in the same room together.
Thanks to shows like MatlockThe High potential and Abbott elementaryBoth critics and viewers finally remember that network -TV can be just good (and sometimes even better) than the large budget offers from Streamers.
And there are no finer examples of network TV’s quality than Will Trenta show that can ask existential questions while making you stumble upon a man who has a heart-to-heart with its dog Or laugh when a group of detective plays an improvised game on the floor is lava to avoid contaminating a crime scene.
Ultimately, Will Trent Is the best show on TV because can do everything, backwards and in a three -part suit. (And okay, the adorable dog doesn’t hurt either.)
