How I met your momThe protagonist, Ted Mosby, can sometimes be a joke – and it was on purpose.
On the section 14 How we made your mom Podcasthosts Josh Radnor (who played Ted) and Craig Thomas (who together created the series) talked about season 1, section 4, entitled “Return of the Shirt”, together with producer Kourtney Kang, who wrote the section.
Trio discussed how even if the early sections of Himym Painted Ted as a romantic hero, hopelessly in love with Robin (Cobie Smulders), in section 4 they wanted to shake things up and make Ted “the villain.”

“(The authors) got really excited about the idea of turning the gear and putting you in the position where your character, someone wanted you, and you were the one who had to break his heart,” Kang said. “It helped to build up the TED character. He is this romantic guy who desperately wants to fall in love and wants the big girl, but also, he is a character that women want and who women want to fall in love with, but it’s not so easy. It must be someone big.”
“Ted is not just a guy who pines after girls,” Kang said, and the show wanted to demonstrate his “story.”
Thomas, 49, said they thought, “Let’s turn up a bit in this. Let’s do Ted in the wrong one. He can’t just be this guy who holds good speech and tells everyone the right things And only the stars are not in line, but he will always be on the right. Ted F —– In this one. ”
In the section, Ted rediscover a shirt that he bought years ago and never liked. He realizes that he likes it now and starts wearing it. It makes him wonder what other things he left behind in his past, and he decides to reconnect with his ex Natalie (Anne Dudek), which he dumped over the phone in an answering machine on her birthday.

When Natalie eventually caves and decides to meet him again, he realizes that he had the right to release her for the first time and breaks with her again – also on her birthday. She picks herself by beating him.
“With most TED screws he has visible bruises and injuries to show it,” Radnor said, 50. “I think this is the first time, as Ted shows up black and blue, but not the last.”
Later in the section, rowing reflected on the importance of “scratching Ted as someone who both wants and desired, and also gets his heart broken and breaks the hearts.”

“If you are in the dating game long enough, you will play all the roles,” he said. “So it’s not really honest to just say that this is a guy who always gets his heart broken, or this is a guy who always leaves … if you are out long enough, you stop being a hero and a villain depending on the night.”
Kang added, “I like it in this section ,, Ted has real flaws. He’s not just this brilliant knight in brilliant armor.”
