What ever happened to the role of “my three sons?”



Raising three boys on their own was not easy, but Steve Douglas made it look like a breeze – and the viewers couldn’t get enough.

My three sons Charmed audiences with their mix of everyday life and cordial comedy, quickly becomes a TV favorite. The show debuted in 1960 and ran for an impressive 12 seasons, making it one of the farthest sitcoms in its era.

The show’s TV trip started at ABC, where it sent its first five seasons in black and white. After that, the show made the jump to CBS, switched to color for its remaining seven seasons and reached an even wider audience.

Fred Macmurray played the lead role as the calm and gathered the danger, united by Tim Considine, Don Grady and Stanley Livingston as three of the original sons.

Fred Macmurray played Steve Douglas, a widow flight engineer and father of three sons.

In addition to the series, MacMurray was known for its roles in Disney movies such as The raggy dog (1959) and The absent professor (1961).

Macmurray held a relatively low profile after My three sons, with its last film appearance on the 1978 The swarm.

The notoriously sparse actor spent most of his time at his ranch, golf and spent time with his family.

In 1987 he was honored as the first Disney legend and acknowledged his significant contribution to the entertainment industry.

He married Lillia Lamont in 1936, but the couple divorced in 1953. He later tied with June Havs in 1954, and they were together until his death in November 1991. He was 83.

MacMurray had a total of four adopted daughters – two with Lamont and two with gathers.

Tim Considine played Mike Douglas, Steve’s oldest son, from 1960 to 1965.

After leaving My three sonsConsidine appeared in Patton (1970) and had several small TV roles. He continued to act for decades after his departure, and his last credited role was in Sunbeam (2006).

Considine was also a car historian, photographer and writer. He contributed to New York Times Magazine And co -operated the film 1970 Tarzan’s deadly silence Alongside his brother Considine.

Tim married twice – first with Charlotte Stewart and later with Willette Hunt, with whom he shares a son named Christopher.

Tim passed away March 3, 2022, age 81.

Don Grady played Robbie Douglas, that middle son.

Before the series he was a museketeer on Mickey Mouse Club. After My three sonsGRADY switched to a music career and composed for television and film, including the theme of Phil Donahue -Show.

He first married Julie Boonis in 1976, but the couple divorced after three years. In 1985 he tied with Virginia Lewsader, with whom he had two children.

Gradu went away June 27, 2012, 68 years, after a struggle with cancer.

Stanley Livingston as “Chip” Douglas

Stanley Livingston played “Chip” Douglas, the youngest son.

He continued to act after the series and pops up in movies such as Attack of 60 foot centerfolds (1995) and The aftermath (1982).

Livingston’s career has extended different roles in the entertainment industry, including voice games, producing and directing – shows his versatility in addition to acting.

He married twice – first with Sandra Goble (1968-1974) and then with Paula Drake. He and Drake share a daughter.

Livingston, 74, is the last surviving original role member.

William Frawley played “Bub” O’Casey, Steve’s father -in -law and the boys’ caretaker.

He was also known for his role as Fred Mertz at I love Lucy. FRAWLEY once married Edna Frawley (1914-1927), but the couple had no children.

Frawley passed away on March 3, 1966, 79 years.

William Demarest joined the role of Uncle Charley O’Casey in 1965 and replaced BUB.

He had a productive career in film and television, which pops up in over 100 films, for example The Great McGinty (1940), Sullivan’s travels (1941) and Miracle by Morgan’s Creek (1943).

Demarest married Lucile Thayer in 1939. The couple, who had no children, were together until his death in December 1983. He was 91.

Barry Livingston Like Ernie Douglas

Barry Livingston joined the series in 1963, three years after his older brother, Stanley, landed his role as a series of regular.

Barry, 71, played Ernie Douglas, Chip’s friend, who was later adopted by Steve.

He continued to act after the series, with roles in Argo (2012)War dogs (2016) And Jersey -Bojkar (2014). He has also appeared in popular shows as Two and a half men and General Hospital.

Barry married Karen Huntsman in 1983 and the couple shares two children. His memoir 2021, The importance of being Erniecovers his life as a child star.

Tina Cole as Katie Miller Douglas

Tina Cole played Katie Miller, Robbie’s wife, from 1967.

Actress and producer is also known for their roles in Hawaiian eye (1959) and To Rome with love (1969). Her latest credits include Awakened (2020) and Take it from the top (2017).

Cole first married the actor and producer Volney Howard III in 1965, but the couple divorced in 1970. They share a child.

Cole, 81, later tied with Fillmore Pajau Crank, Jr., with whom she had three children.

Her memoir, My three liveswas released in 2022.

Beverly Garland as Barbara Harper Douglas

Beverly Garland played Barbara Harper, Steve’s other wife.

She had a productive career in television and film, with roles in Bird’s fright and Mrs King (1983), 7th heaven (1996), The custodian (2001) and more.

Garland married three times – most recently to Filmore Crank (1960-1999). She and Crank had two children together.

The actress passed away on December 5, 2008, 82 years of age.

Dawn Line as Dodie Harper Douglas

Dawn Lyn joined the role of Dodie Harper, Barbara’s daughter and Steve’s stepdaughter, 1969. It is one of her most remarkable roles.

The 62-year-old actress retired in the late 1970s and has been married to W. John Reese since 2006.

Since October 2022, Lyn has met significant health challenges. After undergoing brain surgery to remove a non-malignant tumor, she developed bacterial meningitis, which led to an eight-month hospital stay.
