King Charles and Queen Camilla are Celebrates 20 years of marriageBut their love story is going back decades before they got married in 2005.
They opened a throw in 1970, and although distance, new love and scandals drew them apart, the couple resumed their romance and reunited publicly in the 90s.
Over the years, both royalty have reflected on their rocky past and the steady affection that carried them through everything. Despite the review and mass of general interest surrounding them, Camilla, 77 and Charles, 76, remains much linked to this day, because they both sit on the throne as king and queen.
From royal excursions to intimate holidays, look back at the royal couple’s lasting love with the Throwback photos from the beginning of the 2000s.
Although they did not get married until 2005, Charles then triggered a romance with a young Camilla in 1970, when they were introduced by a mutual friend. They interrupted their relationship with Charles to join the Navy and were not reunited for several years. (They are depicted here 2000.)

In her book Duchess: The Untold StoryPenny Junor detailed how Charles was immediately taken with Camilla during the earliest days of their relationship.
“He loved the fact that she smiled with her eyes as well as her mouth and laughed at the same stupid things as he did,” Junor wrote in his biography of the current queen consort. “He also liked that she was so natural and simple and friendly, not in any way appealed by him, not fawning or sykofant. In short, he was very taken with her, and after the first meeting he started calling her.”

The previous flames reunited in the public eye after their respective divorces. Camilla split from her first husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, 1995, and Prince Charles officially ended his marriage to Princess Diana 1996.
They were waiting for 1999 to make their first official appearance as a couple and finally went out together to celebrate Camilla’s sister Annabel Elliots birthday. Over 150 photographers were waiting outside the party at the London Ritz Hotel to catch Prince Charles and Camilla on their way out.

During their first marriage, both Charles and Camilla became parents of two. It would be the king welcomed Prince William and Prince Harryand Camilla became the mother of daughter Laura and son Tom.

While participating in a national osteoporosis Society’s event in Somerset House in 2001, Charles and Camilla shared one of their first public kisses. The moment came months after Queen Elizabeth joined the couple for lunch – signaled her approval of the romance.

The world was well aware of the duo’s resuscitation when Camilla consistently began to join Charles during his royal commitment in 2002. The following year she moved into his residence in Clarence House.

In an interview 2022 with British VogueCamilla opened about her experience with Charles In the 90s, when the world saw them become a public article again.
“It’s not easy,” she told the publication. “I was reviewed so long that you just have to find a way to live with it. No one likes to be looked at all the time and, you know, criticized … but I think in the end, I rise over it and continue with it. You have to move on with life.”

Before Queen Elizabeth’s death, the former monarch shared her “sincere wish” for Camilla to go into the role of the consort When Charles inherited the throne.
According to a Royal Insider, it was important that Queen Elizabeth formally appoints Camilla the title before Charles actually became king. The late ruler gave her approval in February 2022, during her platinum anniversary just a few months before her death.
“They couldn’t wait until Charles was actually king – it had to come from the Queen herself,” the palace source told us at that time. “Now was a good time because of the anniversary-it was almost tailor made for this time.”
