McCourt is best known as the former owner of Los Angeles Dodger’s baseball law.
For several years he has been raised against the power of the large technical platforms and accused them of Damage children and help send the world from the rails.
“We are manipulated by these large platforms. And that’s why we see in free communities everywhere, there is a kind of world on fire, right?” McCourt told AFP at the Collision Tech Conference in Toronto.
“There is a lot (political) agitation, a lot of chaos, a lot of polarization. Well, you know what, the algorithms work well. They keep us in the constant state. It’s time for change.”
McCourt said that he was originally motivated to act by the threat that social media poses for his own seven children.
“This internet is predators. It does a lot of damage to the children. We see the anxiety, the depression and an epidemic now by children taking their lives,” he said.
To address the problem, McCourt is campaign for a “new internet” which he claims would be wrestling control over the web away from large platforms such as InstagramThe YoutubeTictoc, or X: “These platforms have hundreds of thousands of individual attributes about each of us. And this is not just where we shop or what we like to eat or where we are physically present. It’s about how we think, how we move, how we react , how we behave. ”
McCourt represents a new internet in his project Liberty, which he describes as an open source, decentralized protocol where users control their own data, regardless of the social media app.

McCourt is not alone in seeing Chinese-owned platform, with Donald TrumpFormer secretary for the Treasury Steve Mnuchin also promotes a bid.
These plans, as some say are far -reaching, follow a bill signed by president Joe Biden In April, it gives TikTok 270 days to find a non-Chinese buyer or meet a ban in the United States.
But it is hardly a sure thing that Tiktok will be for sale.

But he added, “I hope this Tiktok question will make the light bulb go out for people, and they will realize (that even on other platforms) their data is scraped and sent somewhere.”
“Maybe it doesn’t come to China, but it’s somewhere controlled by someone who has everything about you, and it’s not correct. It’s undemocratic,” he said.
