United Airlines temporarily stopped domestic flights in the United States due to an “technology issue”, according to the airline on Wednesday, August 6.

“We work with customers to get them to their destinations after a technology disorder on Wednesday evening,” a spokesman tells United to People. “The underlying technology issue has been resolved, and although we expect remaining delays, our team is working to restore our normal operations.”

The reason for the “disturbance” was “not related to the latest concerns about cyber security in the aviation industry,” repairs.

The interruption began at 18:12 and “resolved within a few hours,” said United’s spokesman, “even though the remaining delays continued on Wednesday evening.”

From 21:45, approximately 31% of the carrier’s flights had been delayed and 1% had been canceled one according to Flight Data Tracker Flightware, per CNN.

Airports in Chicago, Denver, Newark, NJ, Houston and San Francisco have been affected by Federal Aviation Administration System Status.

“We miss some figures that we have to take off so we can’t take off yet and do not have a time estimate when we will be able to,” passenger Angela Jeffers, whose flight from Nashville to Denver was delayed two hours on Wednesday, to CNN.

United’s spokesman tells people that the airline “treats this as a controllable delay, which means that we paid customer costs as a hotel when applicable.”

The grounded United flights come after Alaska Airlines founded all its flights for about three hours due to an IT break on July 21. Another interruption took place in April 2024.
