Tsunami Alert issued for the entire US west coast after earthquake of 8.8-Magnitude

A Tsunami warning has been issued for the West Coast of the United States, Japan, Hawaii and parts of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, following a massive earthquake of 8.8 size off Russia’s coast on Tuesday, July 29. Guam has also been placed under Tsunami warning.

Ecuador and Russia’s east coast could be struck by waves of more than 10 feet triggered by the 8.8 earthquake, says US Tsunami Warning Center.

The first waves have met Hokkaido in northern Japan, according to the local outlet NHK per The custodian. The waves measured almost 30 cm (about 11 inches) and swept some structures from their foundation as the waves moved inland.

Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture and Ishinomaki, and Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, have evacuated to the same safe places on higher land used by survivors from 2011 Tsunami who beat the country.

New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned Tsunami’s nation. Nema said in a statement: “Strong streams and surgeries can harm and drown people. There is a danger to swimmers, surfers, people fishing and anyone in or near the water near the beach. People in or near the sea in the following areas should move out of the water, outside the beaches and beach areas and away from ports, marinas, rivers and river mouths.”

Most of the country’s coastline is threatened, Nema said, although no evacuations are currently ordered if they are not directly advised by local defense authorities.

The earthquake was registered at 19:24, about 78 miles of East-South cheese on Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia, said US Geological Survey (USGS) in its updated assessment, Per USA today. The agency said that the earthquake was shallow, at a depth of about 11 miles.

It is likely among the six best strongest earthquakes ever registered, per Washington Post.

At least six earthquakes then occurred near Kamchatka today, says USGS. Their first readings had sizes of 6.9, 6.3, 5.4, 5.7 and 5.6.

The National Tsunami Warning Center recommends that tsunami activity be possible in Shemya, Alaska starting at 16:46, ADT, since 17:46 at Adak and 19:06 at Saint Paul, about 760 miles west of Anchorage.

O’Ahu Emergency Management has issued an evacuation warning for the coastal areas of the island around Honolulu, Hawaii. “Take action! Destroying tsunami waves expected. Go to http://hnlalert.gov For wave anchor time. Evacuate coastal areas in primary evacuation zone, ”wrote OEM in a post about X.

The warning is also expanded to British Columbia, Canada, also on the West Coast.
