The woman was found stabbed to death at the French holiday home

  • Karen Carter was found with eight stab wounds outside her holiday rental in France
  • Investigators say that the mother to four had a deal with the retired businessman who found her body
  • Her husband, in South Africa, learned about her killing through Facebook

A British entrepreneur who lived in a French village where she owned two rental homes was found brutally stabbed last week.

Karen Carter, 65, was discovered killed in Dordogne, in southwestern France, April 29, BBC reported, with reference to the state prosecutor.

A friend found her with eight stab wounds, including wounds on her groin and chest, next to her porch of her house in the village of Trémolat, according to a preliminary autopsy report and a statement by prosecutor Sylvie Martins-Guedes quoted by The connection and The timesrespective.

Martins-Guedes said the investigation focuses on “people who probably had a nag” against Karen or the man she had a deal, which ultimately found her body, per The times.

During the investigation, police arrested a 69-year-old neighbor but the woman was released, The timesThe connection and Telegraph reported.

The man who found the guy’s body was identified in The times And Connexion reports as a 74-year-old businessman. He was briefly arrested but released without accusations.

Information about the victim’s reported business shocked her husband, who lives in South Africa, according to The times.

He said he learned about Karen’s murder from a relative who saw the news on Facebook. “No one had come into contact with me at all to let me know what had happened,” he said according to the BBC.

Since her arrival in the village of Trémolat more than a decade ago, Karen had become a beloved member of society.

“She was the embodiment of kindness,” said a friend who played with Karen at a football team for women over 50 years.

“She is the one who would take home the lost dog, or the cat, or whatever. She is that kind of person,” her husband said in the aftermath of her death, according to the BBC. “Everyone liked her. That’s why I married her.”

No suspects have been arrested.
