The woman goes out from dinner after parents comment shockingly about their partner

A woman turned to Reddit for support after a degrading dinner with her parents made her realize that she needed to establish fixed boundaries with them.

In her post, the 32-year-old explained that she has met her 48-year-old girlfriend, Ruby, for ten months and things have gone well.

Alternatively, she detailed the difficult relationship she has had with her parents and how they were not part of her life that grew up. Only recently have they tried to make changes, which led the poster to tell their parents about their girlfriend.

“I slowly started to let them into my life and a few months ago told them about Ruby. They immediately jumped to tell me how I am too young to meet someone so old,” she shared in her Reddit post. “I turned it off immediately. I told them they may not say things like that for me, ever. They can support me after all the things they pulled or disappear.”

The breaking point came when the four went out for dinner together. It was the first time the poster girlfriend and parents met. According to the post, dinner went smoothly until Ruby kissed Reddit user before he got up to go to the toilet.

“The other she was out of the ear shot, my mom just knocked out something that” Ruby absolutely discourages us. She is disgusting “,” the user’s parts. She said nothing, and instead just flagged down the waitress, told her parents that they left and paid the bill when they sat in silence.

It wasn’t until the poster and her girlfriend left the restaurant that she explained the situation, and Ruby comforted her. The user noted that her parents have since been stretched to scold her for leaving and have claimed that they just want the best for her.

Many of the commentators felt that the poster was motivated to leave dinner and emphasized that her parents have nothing to say in their lives.

“You are an adult who can make their own decisions,” wrote a commentator. “It’s one thing to be worried about you, but your parents crossed a large line by offending your girlfriend when they were already on shaky ground. They said something that could never be unsaid.”
