A woman feels discouraged by her partner’s grandmother’s prickly response to her thought -provoking gesture.

In a post on the British based community forum MumnetThe woman explained that she, her partner and their daughter recently participated in a grill at her grandparents home. The next day, to thank them for their hospitality, she sent “a beautiful bouquet of flowers” to their house, along with a card.

“I ordered from a local florist, a small company that has been fantastic before,” noted OP (original poster). “They delivered the flowers on the date and time they said they would do it.

A few days later, OP was surprised to know that her gift was not as well received as she had hoped.

“I got a message from (my partner) grandmother a few days later (whom I had not heard on the day of delivery) to say thank you but 2 of (flower) heads dropped/had died when they were out for the day etc.,” wrote op. “So she then continued to send me a new message the day after that to say that she had taken hold of the company and got them to send a new compensation.”

“I don’t know why it really bothers me. I thought it was at least the idea that counts. As if it wasn’t good enough,” she continued and questioned, “maybe it is me !! ??”

She then noted that a stick point is that she recently hosted her own grill at home, and Grandma “did not give as much as a bottle of wine.”

OP repeated her dissatisfaction with Grandma’s decision to demand a replacement bouquet.

“I just feel that it is a little grateful – to request a small company to send a new bunch for free but it is your fault when you were out all day,” she finished her post.

In the comments, readers had mixed opinions about the situation. Some saw nothing wrong with what Grandma did and placed the blame on the flower dealer.

“Both you and she deserve to have a bouquet that lasts rather than a dying. It should not mean that it was left out all day – if the florist had packed it properly, they would have included water to ensure that the flowers stayed fresh,” wrote a person.

Another reader agreed to write, “It wasn’t a little on you … It wasn’t she was unreasonable … This is normal in the flower area. The countless rule about flowers is that the recipient knows that you have no control over the condition of the delivered flowers. You only get the gratitude to send them, but if there is a problem, of course you want to know.”

Another commentator suggested that Grandma was simply aware of the money that OP spent on the flowers.

“She probably knew you had spent a lot and was crossed on your behalf that they had gone over,” they pointed out. “The florist could have left them with a neighbor or even tried to deliver again the next day, which would have neglected the need to replace.”

Still, others were on OP’s attitude that Grandma could have handled the gift more graciously.

Someone else chimped in: “My answer to her would have been” ah big, glad you got the flowers “… and never send anything again. Lesson because you paid for flowers and she deserved to receive flowers, the idea is counted too much and she was kind of mixing and annoying.”
