A bomb group was called to a British elementary school after a student brought a hand in World War II to the school for a show-and-Tell presentation.
According to BBCTeachers and administrators at Osmaston Church of England Primary School in Ashbourne, England-who is about 35 miles outside Sheffield-Blev shocked when a boy drew a hand in the Second World War from his pocket to present on the show and tell on Friday 16 May.
The school’s head teacher, Jeanette Hart, told the outlet that even though she did not know if the grenade was alive or not, she gently took the weapon from the student and carried it outside and left it behind a “significant” tree in the parking lot.
“It looked old and I thought it might be safe, but I didn’t want to take the risk,” Hart said, sharing that the boy had taken the family’s legacy to school without telling his parents.
“I finished the congregation, took it off him and slowly carried it outside and put it behind a long tree in the parking lot,” she reminded the BBC. “I wasn’t 100% happy to carry it, to be honest.”

Emergency personnel were called to school, including officers from Matlock, Cromford, Wirksworth and Darley Dale Police SNT, who shared the weapon was a “class 5 hand grenade” in a Facebook mail on Friday.
Local police wrote in their statement that military weapons experts were also called to the scene and confirmed that the grenade was not alive.
“Thanks to the EOD (Explosive Ordnance disposal) (too) that popped with and believes that the device is safe (not active), through X-ray-beam we even see these pictures and (where) told a detailed analysis of how there was nothing that would put away the grenade,” said the police.

“It was a pretty eventful congregation,” Hart added to the BBC for the surprising incident. “It went well and it was a boy who brought an old bullet, which I knew about, but then his friend produced a hand grenade from his pocket.”
“That, I didn’t expect,” she added.
Hart also told the outlet that most of the children were not aware of what happened and was quickly taken outside.
“The kids didn’t really know what was happening, but they knew something was different and they were happy because they saw the police and because they were playing when they would have been to school,” she said.

Hart also told the BBC that she had a “little chat” with the boy and his family after the incident.
“It was completely innocent,” she said. “I don’t think he ever knew what it was. We had talked about VE (victory in Europe) day, and he knew it was from the war and just thought it was an interesting thing.”

“His family didn’t know (he took it), and they were a little surprised,” she added.
In their statement, the police warned parents and guardians to keep an eye on what their children give to school.
“Just a word with guidance for parents and guardians – double -check what your children take to show and tell, especially when they are the family’s legacy,” they wrote.
