In 2002, Stacey Giese, a NICU nurse worked in Wisconsin, her 15.00 to 3 am Shift. Stacey’s expected due date was pregnant with his fourth child, but it did not appear that way.
“It was an older RN who worked with me,” says Stacey, 59, to people, “and she must have seen something in me that made her think I was in work.” But at that time Stacey felt good – but her colleague was not convinced and said to her: “Well, screaming out every time you have a contraction.” ”
Sure enough, several hours after her shift began, Stacey gave birth to her baby daughter Hannah at HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital in Green Bay.

For two decades later, Hannah, now 22, follows in her mother’s breastfeeding footsteps – and in a full circle, the two have worked together at St. Vincent’s Nicu for almost a year.
Hannah tells people that she heard the story of her unconventional birth from her mother all the time to grow up. “I thought (it) was funny,” she says, “I know that of the heart now.”

The day she gave birth, Stacey continued – who has been with St. Vincent’s Nicu for 38 years – now – even when her contractions were about three minutes apart.
“I can remember that I said to myself:” Suck it up buttercup, “says Stacey.” I just turned around and thought, “okay, just let’s keep going here, take a few deep breaths and just keep my head focused on what I do.” ”
“Then about half an hour later,” continues Stacey, “the fee nurse came in and said:” Hello, how are you? “I said,“ It gets pretty rough. ”“
And it took a long time before she made a decision and said, “I get into this bed and have a child.”

Hannah is the only one of her siblings who became a nurse, a career path that she first realized that she wanted to run while he was still in high school.

Since working with her mother at Nicu, she has learned such things as taking care of infants, following standards and procedures and talking to parents.

“It’s been fantastic,” says Hannah. “I have learned a lot. I really have many people to put back, talk about talking things. Even the people in Nicu are amazing.”
For Stacey is to have a daughter follow in her footsteps gratifying “It is a bit cool that the inheritance continues,” she says. “I know she will be a strong employee, a strong NICU nurse. She is good at clinical thinking, so she is in a perfect place for her. So I like to see her go through it.”
