The man was arrested over 900 miles away after abandoning 13 days old child in snow

A Virginia -man was arrested in another state earlier this week after claiming attacked and suffocated his child’s mother before abandoning his newborn child in the snow and fled to Florida.

Darvin Flores Caballeros, 20, was taken into custody in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, on Thursday, February 20, in the middle of a “crime stop.” He is facing allegations of harmful wounds, choking, two counts of children’s danger, abuse and battery on a family member, Petit Larceny and an emergency protection order, according to a news message from Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

The office, which shared the information about X, revealed that the suspect had “active warrants” from the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia, which originated from the alleged February 12 domestic attack, during which he was accused of attacking the mother of his child and abandoning his 13 days Old children.

According to the office’s investigation, Caballeros is accused of losing his child and attacked and choked the child’s mother during a struggle. He then fled on site on foot with the child.

A “good Samaritan” later discovered the child in a pile of snow, while the victim “was hospitalized with serious injuries after the attack,” according to WCSO.

WCSO deputors eventually arrested Caballeros just over a week later, about 11:00 local time on Thursday, when they completed a “crime stop” and found that he was a passenger in a vehicle.

As of Thursday evening, the suspect was taken to Walton County prison and waited for extradition. According to the prisoner information from Walton County Jails websiteCaballeros initially appeared in court practically on Friday morning, where he was accused as an “out-of-state flyitive.”

There is currently no bond information for him and he remains “in custody” in prison from Saturday, while it is unclear if he has retained a lawyer. WCSO did not immediately respond to people’s request for further information on February 22.

As the authorities note, his accusations follow Virginia State Statute, which means that they can be formulated differently than his accusations would have been in Florida, where he was arrested.
