“When I contacted the American Marshals and turned over all the information collected, they began their work,” Allen continued.

According to ABC NewsWho quoted the US Marshals service, Guzman was taken into custody in the city of Ocoee, where he was “arrested without incident at his mother’s home” by Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was booked in the Orange County prison and will be extradited to Georgia, Per WSB-TV.

Guzman “released in error” from the Clayton County prison approximately 16:49 local time on March 27.

“The reason for the release is under investigation, and disciplinary measures are waiting. When the investigation is complete, it can lead to employees ceasing to Clayton County Sheriff’s Office,” Allen said in his statement.

He added that Guzman’s “unintentional release” was discovered on April 8, 2025, about 13:47, when “District Attorney’s Office of the Clayton County Judicial Circuit contacted me directly asked for Guzman.”

Clayton County District Attorney’s Office confirmed “Incorrect edition” in its own statement.

According to Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, when the incident occurred, Guzman waited for the transfer to the Georgia Department of Corrections, where he was planned to serve his lifetime sentence.

Guzman was found guilty of a count of crime murder and a bill of aggravated abuse at the end of 2024 for his then 19-year-old girlfriend in August 2022, according to an earlier press release from Clayton County District Attorney’s Office.

“After strangling Delila to death, the defendant moved his body to the bathroom, closed the door, left the apartment and did not contact law enforcement for ten plus hours,” the press release said.
