The husband’s ultrasound joke backfires, wife forbid him from speaking at meetings

Expecting a child is one of life’s most emotional and transformative experiences.

For a Reddit user and his wife, both 31, the trip to parenting took an unexpectedly troublesome – yet humorous – luck during a routine ultrasound meeting.

What started as a happy, exciting day quickly became a moment of comically wrong, which will probably remember for many years to come.

“We went in for 12-week scan. Everyone is in a good mood, the technology is cute and everything looks good,” The soon-to be dad writes In the post, to put the scene for what would be a sore milestone in their pregnancy journey.

But then came the moment that often gives tears to the parents’ eyes: the first sound of the child’s heartbeat. “She puts the magic wand over my wife’s stomach, and the room goes quiet. Then: Lub Dub. Lub Dub,” he remembers.

It was then captured, in the feeling and the surreal quality at the moment, that the expected father said what he thought would be an easier comment to break the silence.

“Without thinking, I blur,” sounds like a little rave in there, “he reminds.

Unfortunately, his attempt at humor did not land. “Nobody laughs. Not the technology. Not my wife,” he says. “Tech just says flat,” It’s a heart, not a party. “My wife, God bless her, gives me” please stop breathing for a second “look.”

The poster found that he has since been “permanently forbidden to speak during future meetings.”

While the joke got no laughter, it led to an unofficial nickname for their future son. “We name the child Oliver,” he writes, “but I know that the real nickname will be DJ Heartbeat.”

In the end, this expected father taught a valuable – and something embarrassing – lesson: sometimes it is best to say during a gripping moment nothing at all.

Yet it is clear that his heart was in the right place, even if his time was not.
