Teen breaks down in tears after mom has submitted her room without asking

A teenager turns to Reddit for advice after an emotional confrontation with her mother who left her in tears over an unwanted bedroom makeover.

The woman begins Her post By explaining that her mother tends to take home renovations in her own hands during her downtime – without consulting the party whose room she is renovating. In this case, the 19-year-old poster was her victim.

“My mom has a habit of cleaning and decorating on her free days because I think she really thinks it’s fun,” she writes, explaining that while she has always tried to be grateful, she and her mother’s decoration choice are not adapted.

“No matter how many times I’ve told her I don’t want her to buy me stupid furniture and spend money on something I hate, she does it again,” professes the woman.

The latest makeover, she says, felt like it was “designed by a 12 year old”, with her mother who seems to ignore her repeated grounds to be consulted before making any changes. The new decor included light pink furniture and AI-generated artwork, but had no personal ties to any of the teenager’s passions or hobbies.

“It’s like she has no idea who I am and bought impulsively the first thing she saw on the Amazon Trend page,” complains the poster.

Her feelings of frustration quickly bubbled to the surface, especially since she has made it clear that she hates when her mother spends money on her. “I feel an extreme guilt,” she admits, adding that she is “very sensitive to change” and struggled to hide her true feelings right now.

The situation became even more excited when her father, who visited at that time, went in and accused her of being grateful. “He said I would like it because I am a girl,” she reminds and noted that the confrontation left her to feel even more misunderstood by her family.

Despite her inner concern, the woman says she was trying to deal with the situation with empathy, hugged her mother and apologizes for being upset. Although the teenager told her mother that she “really appreciated it”, she just can’t help but get angry “on the lack of communication and care.

“What is the injury to just ask me if I want it?” She questions and expresses her confusion about why her mother continues to make such decisions without consulting her. “There is no way she thought I would like this at all,” she insists.

Addition to her distress revealed the poster concerns about her mother’s expenditure habits, especially since “she can’t afford to pay her rent.” She suspects that mum’s impulse to decorate may be linked to a shopping dependence and worries about the economic load it causes.

However, the woman expresses her love for her mother, but wishes she would respect her space.

“I love her. I just wish she would ask me about these things,” she concludes.
