Shirley Chung takes “another step towards recovery” in the latest update on Tongue Cancer Journey

Chef Shirley Chung continues to share their cancer trip.

On Monday 7 April, Chung, 48, published a new update to Instagram regarding her treatment with Step 4 heavy cancer.

The Top chef Alun revealed that she was diagnosed Step 4 heavy cancer By the end of July 2024. Since October announced She had completed the first two weeks of her radiation and chemotherapy treatment and received a feeding tube (also known as a “G-tube”) in September.

She finished her ten -week radiation and chemotherapy in mid -December. Shortly after she finished treatment at the University of Chicago, she returned home to Los Angeles in time for the holiday.

In the April update, she revealed that the pipe was removed and said it is “another step towards recovery ❤.”

She explained in the new update that she received the G-tube during her second week with radiation and chemotherapy treatments because “(it) inside my mouth and throat were burned so hard that drinking water felt like rubbing salt on my raw meat”, “it helped me keep me alive.”

“Medicine, water, nutritional shakes were all fed through it for over 6 months,” she continued. “I heal and go to therapy to learn how to swallow and speak.”

Chung “still has a small part of the tongue bleeding,” she wrote.

“But I’m good enough to consume medication, water and food through the mouth for the past three weeks,” she continued. She recently completed a procedure that created a small hole on her stomach, which she noted will close in three to five days.

“I finished another chapter in cancer Fighting Journey ✌,” she wrote. “Almost there !!”

Several people celebrated Chung’s latest steps in her treatment trip in the comment episode in her Instagram update.

“So much inspiration and love here. Shirley you are really brave, very magnetic and so beautiful person. Thank you for sharing these intimate times us. Your fans. ❤,” Colleague Top chef alum Sam Talbot wrote.

Known chefs Susan Feniger and Simon Majumdar offered her encouraging messages.

“Shirley … you look amazing … I can’t imagine how challenging this is but you are fighting this in such a powerful way … Lots of love …”, Feniger wrote.

“Your way of getting through this trip is so strong. You guided me how to handle my own cancer trip. And I am eternally grateful. Hopefully we will soon see each other on @foodnetwork scene. 🔥🔥🔥🔥,” added Majumdar.
