The winners of the 2025 Whiting Awards have arrived!

The literary award, host of Naughty foundationannounced the 10 winners of the prestigious glory at a ceremony at the New York Historical Society in New York City on April 9.

Currently, during its 40th year, the award recognizes “Excellency and promise in a spectrum of emerging talents, which gives most winners the chance to devote themselves full -time to their own writing or take bold new risks in their work.”

The winners for fiction included writers Elwin Cotman (The age of ignorance), Emil Ferris (My favorite thing is monster), Samuel lets in (The road to the SAL SEA), Claire Luchetta (Agatha of little neon) and shubba Sunder (Boomtown Girl, Optional Practical Exercise).

The winners of the Nonfiction genre included Aisha Sabatini Sloan (Dreaming of Ramadi in Detroit) and Sofi Thanhause (Worn out: a people’s history of clothing), while the award for poetry went to Annie Wenstrop (Museum of Unnatural Histories) and Karisma Prize (I’m always so serious).

The winner in drama was Liza Berenmeier (Dr. Ride’s American Beach HouseThe Mourning hotel).

“These writers show astonishing assortment; each has invented the tools they needed to cut out their stories and worlds,” said Whiting’s head of literary program Courtney Hodell in a statement shared with people.

“Taken as a whole, their work shows a heavily fine -tuned sensitivity to our history, both individual and collective and a passionate curiosity about where a deeper understanding of that story can take us.”

Each winner receives $ 50,000. Since the award was founded in 1985, over $ 10 million has been given to more than 400 recipients of the Whiting Award, including writers as Colson WhiteheadThe Sigrid NunezDavid Foster Wallace, Elif Batuman and more.

The 2025 ceremony contained a Keynote number from the 2016 Whiting Award receiver Ocean Vuong, as well as remarks from former winner Alice McDermott, Jia Tolentino, Eduardo C. Corral and James Ijames. Author Tony Tularhimutte introduced readings from the winners in 2025.
