Rupaul’s Drag Race Live! Celebrating 1000th Vegas Show, Creator says it’s “more important now than ever”

Rupaul’s Drag Race Live! Just celebrated their 1,000th performance, and five years in, Las Vegas Revue is more important and is now needed more than ever, according to its creator.

People caught the world of wonders and Rupaul’s Drag Race Executive producers Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey before the milestone show at Flamingo on Saturday, March 15 to reflect on its past, present and future.

“We’re super excited and grateful,” Barbato said about the milestone. “I think we are grateful for all the throws who have been in it over the years. We started before Covid, so it has been quite tough to care for a hit on the Vegas strip, but we are here!”

“If you can do it in Vegas, it’s a good sign,” Bailey added.

Saturday’s show included performances from the current role – Ginger Minj, Asia O’Hara, Jaida Essence Hall, Mophine Dion Love and Plane Jane – and a look and special message from RUPA self.

“This is a fantastic performance and we are so proud of this show,” Rupaul told the audience. “This has been a dream for all ours for so many years. It is such a legendary scene. It is such a honor that you are all here tonight because you are our secret weapon. You continue to come back after show, year after year, and for that I thank you.”

The fact that a show with predominantly LGBTQ+ creators, role and crew thrives in the middle of the strip in the oldest, most iconic property is not lost on Barbato and Bailey, especially in the current political climate where anti-trans rhetoric is launched.

“When you come here to Vegas and you see all the different people from all over the country, different countries, many different backgrounds, many different beliefs on all sides of the political spectrum – for (Draw race live!) To work and be here in 1,000 show, it says something! “Explained Bailey.” I think much of the rhetoric is just that – rhetoric. It is bait. ”

“For the first time, this show puts the Queen’s celebrities in residence. It has really become such a visibility for drag queens. We are on signs, we are at advertising campaigns, we are on taxis, we are at the airport. But holding 1,000 show is a real proof of what the world really needs right now, which is love, laughter and light.”

To keep the show diverse and fresh, new talent comes in. Morphine Love Dion and Plane Jane, who appeared on the last ended season of Drawlbrought their signature high energy and humor respectively. Jida Essence Hall and Asian O’Hara are experienced showgirls, and Ginger Minj delivered one Evil number that would do twice Drawl Guest judge Ariana Grande proud.

Season 17’s top 6 – Jewels Sparkles, Lana Ja’rae, Lexi Love, Onya Nurve, Sam Star and Suzie Toot – also joined the festivities. Some of them can soon get the flamingo scene.

When it comes to the show’s future, Barbato and Bailey say that everything is possible, including a potential other show and a Broadway expansion.

“We have so many talented queens that we can’t wait to get on stage. Maybe we need two draws and two different throws in two different places,” teased Barbo.

The legendary Vegas female impersonator Hot Chocolate summarized it best. “I have lived and performed in Vegas for 40 years. To see the art of pulling actually become so mainstream that they have 1,000 shows, it’s just fantastic.”
