Prince William, Cate Blanchett cooperates to highlight sustainable fashion

Prince William and Cate Blanchett Collaborates for a good thing.

Colorifix, which was a 2023 Earthshot Prize finalist in the category “Build a Waste Free World”, uses DNA sequencing and nature’s own beauty and color to make dyes. Since it was founded in 2016, Colorifix has collaborated with fashion brands including H&M, Pangaia and Vollebak.

DNA sequencing is then used to find color in the genetics of the organism, plant or animal and this is then taken into a color house to grow the color through fermentation, cut out the use for all petrochemicals.

The duo was also taken by how the Colorifix identifies the DNA code that produces the pigment and how the innovative color fluid is attached to the fabric. The process reportedly saves water, energy and carbon dioxide emissions in each step in the manufacturing process.

Blanchett earlier joined the prince and other prominent supporters of Earthshot at the third award tonight in Singapore 2023. She also interviewed the heir to the throne for a podcast about being a “stubborn optimist”, and his goal with the decade long project to find ways to correct the damage made to the earth.
