A South Dakota company is recalling about 2.2 million pounds of barbecue pork due to potential contamination with metal fragments.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced in a press release on Friday, Oct. 24, that Alpena-based LSI, Inc. is recalling 2,277,540 pounds of Golden Island Korean barbecue pork after reports of consumers finding “pieces of stringy metal” in the product.
“LSI, Inc. determined that the metal originated from the conveyor belt used in production,” FSIS said in the release. “There have been no confirmed reports of harm due to consumption of this product.
“Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider,” they added.

The recalled product was shipped to Costco and Sam’s Club retail locations across the United States and lists “best by” dates from October 23 to September 23, 2026.
The recall includes 14.5 oz. and 16-oz. plastic bags of ready-to-eat pork jerky labeled “Golden Island fire-grilled pork jerky Korean barbecue recipe,” according to the release.
Consumers can also identify the products by the plant number “M279A” on the inside of the USDA inspection mark.
FSIS urges consumers who may have already purchased the product “not to consume it” but to throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.

“FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling companies are notifying their customers of the recall and that steps are being taken to ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers,” FSIS said.

The pork jerky recall comes after more than 1,000 pounds of Ada Valley frozen ground beef was recalled in July after pieces of metal were also reportedly found in the product, according to FSIS.
