Pere Ubus David Thomas Dead at 71

David Thomas, singer for Pere Ubu, has died. He was 71.

Thomas died on Wednesday, April 23 in his home in Brighton and Hove in East Sussex, England, the band wrote in a Facebook post. His death was the result of “a long illness.”

The statement said that Thomas had his wife and daughter by his side and listened to music by the rock band MC5.

“He will ultimately be returned to his home, the farm in Pennsylvania, where he insisted that he would be” thrown into the barn, “the statement added.

Thomas had recorded a new album with his band before his death. “He knew it would be his last. We will strive to continue mixing and completing the new album so that his last music is available to everyone,” wrote Pere Ubu. “Apart from that, he left the instruction that the work would continue to catalog all Live -Show bands via the official Bandcamp page.”

The musician also worked with an autobiography, which will be completed by the band.

“We leave you with his own words, which summarizes who he was better than we can,” wrote Pere Ubu before quoting the late rock star. “My name is David F — ing Thomas … and I am a singer for the best F — ing rock n roll band in the world.”

“Long Live Pere Ubu,” ended the statement.

Pere Ubu has released a total of 19 studio albums, with the latest, Problem on Big Beat StreetPremiere 2023.

Thomas was also a founding member of Punk Band Rocket from the Graves, which dismantled after a year 1975. The band was reunited with its original members in 2003 and continued to release the new album Black disc 2015.

The musician worked with several solo projects during his music career.

On one 2022 Interview with The custodianThomas revealed that he does not create new music for money. “I’ve saved enough because I don’t have to work anymore and I could easily coast to death at this time,” he said. “This is not the easiest life in the world. But I want to continue pressing it. If I was satisfied I would stop.”

Thomas also told us The custodian That he underwent kidney dialysis three times a week and needed to use a hiker. “I don’t have the best of health, but my singing voice is better than it has ever been,” he said. “I’m pretty happy that I can’t jump around anymore because I don’t have to worry about falling into the drums. All my concentration goes to singing.”

Tributes for Thomas have flowed on social media. The experimental band good willsmith wrote on x“David Thomas extended the vocabulary for rock performance and songwriting in beautiful foreign directions. A guy you could see on a mounting line who happened to contain the universe. More Gravitas & Gonzo humor in a finger than most singers could ever strive to have. Rest in peace.”

BBC Radio presentant Vic Galloway Shared a photo By himself and Pere Ubu and wrote, “Sad News Am David Thomas of Pere Ubu … I got the band to play live in session for me at @bbc6music 2015 and here we are. It was … ahem … a” tricky “interview … but I think I won David at the end, and they were fantastic!”
