Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo reveals secrets for marriage after 43 years (exclusively)

Pat Benatar and Neil GiraldoLove is still strong after all these years.

The rock legends, which have been together for more than four decades, told people the secrets to their long -standing marriage while participating Whyhunger50th anniversary Chapin Awards Gala in New York City.

“A marriage rule? What, you are always right? Yes, it used to be one thing, but we don’t do it anymore,” teased Giraldo, 69 ,, because Benatar, 72, replied, “but it worked so long.”

The couple first met in 1979. They then became a partner both professionally and personally, with Giraldo as Benatar’s main guitarist and the two latter Wed 1982.

Benatar and Giraldo welcomed two daughters – Haley, 40 and Hana, 31 – And they later became grandparents to Stevie, Lola and Cash.

Adding more to her and her husband’s go-to rules to maintain her trade union, said the musician “Hit me with your best shot”, “We never go to bed.”

“Right, but here’s the thing too,” Giraldo added. “We have learned to be quiet and still be in the same room together and not have to talk to each other, and that’s good.”

The couple said that they are also aware of giving each other space, because they spend so much time, personally and professionally, together.

“We are together around the clock, and we know how to give each other space in the same space,” said Benatar, when her husband chimped in to add, “other than that I have no idea. I mean, we will do things if we want.”

Benatar and Giraldo have been professional collaborators for over 40 years. They are four times Grammy winners, with 36 million albums sold worldwide. Benatar and Giraldo was introduced in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022.

The couple just finished a concert series, but they plan to be back on the road as special guests at Bryan Adams“Roll with the Punches Tour.

Benatar and Giraldo are also co -authors of a soon -to -be -released children’s book, My grandmother and grandfather rock!Which will be published later this year.

When he talks about how they will soon travel to play music again, Benatar told People, “It’s like breathing. Type of packing the bags and walking, you know?”

She continued, “We play so much, so it’s not that we will only take a couple of months off, and it’s just a recovery. We just do it again, that’s all.”

Giraldo said he is looking forward to beating the stage again, minus prep that goes into it.

“I hate to repeat. I really hate to repeat. I just want to go out and play – what’s going on, happening in real time,” he said. “Be in the moment. … you know, be real.”

Benatar, for his part, enjoys prep. “I just want to practice for three months,” she said.

During the Whyhunger event, Benatar and Giraldo were honored with the Ascap Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award.

They were honored for their advocate efforts in support of the global non -profit task of ending hunger and its root causes.

The first prize Ayres Social Justice Award was awarded for CNN’s Laura Coates.
