Pair next in line after the family dies in Hudson River Chopper Crash speaks out

A couple who visited New York City from the Netherlands said they were waiting in a row to board The convicted helicopter crashed into the Hudson River Thursday, April 10. All six people on board were killed.

“We saw pictures … of the family and (realized) ‘wow … that’s the one we saw (at the heliport),” Melissa Maertem, 23, told The New York Daily NewsAfter watching news films of the crash after returning to their hotel. “It’s really, really hard.”

Maertem and her partner Mellissa Bos, 24, said they were in line behind Agustín Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal and their three children who eventually boarded the chopper.

The family to five from Spain was killed together with the pilot, later identified as Sean JohnsonIn the crash, which happened around 15:15 local time, according to the New York City Police Department. Hoboken Fire Department confirmed that the crash took place in Jersey.

Witnesses have said they saw The helicopter “falls apart” in Midair.

Maertem told me Daily news That she and Bos were originally excited when booking their New York City helicopter trip six months ago.

She told the magazine that when they arrived at Heliport early around 16:45, for their flight, she noticed that Heliport -employees were stimulated and seemed nervous.

After 15 minutes, the couple was told that the flights were canceled for the rest of the day.
