Munn’s presence at Monday’s event comes after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 after testing revealed that she had a luminal B quickly moving, aggressive cancer-in both breasts.
During her speech at the annual gala, Munn explained that her annual mammogram and ultrasound in her chest had clear results before her diagnosis, but a doctor insisted that she made life.
She remembers that she struggled to tell her husband that she had cancer after a series of other tests confirmed that she had the disease.
“When I got home, my son played in the yard and was just over a year old at that moment, and I went over, and I hugged him so hard that he said,” Mama too much, “she said during her speech.
“And then I turned to John, and just then we started planning my way out of this thing. The next day I started scheduling all my meetings. If you have ever been diagnosed with any cancer, you know, that’s a lot.”

Munn praised the team of doctors who have not only taken care of her but also helped to welcome her baby daughter. She then encouraged participants in the collection for cancer research to be generous.
“I don’t want this trip on anyone, but if you have to meet cancer I ask you to meet the type of doctor I did, the nurses, the hospital administrators, all along the way that showed me kindness during the scary days,” she said. “There are countless other doctors and researchers that I have never met that I have to thank.”

In addition to Munn’s speech, the gala contained remarkable Honorees, tributes to survivors, research updates and live music performances.
“I am just so grateful to talk about my cancer and talk about the lifetime risk assessment test has spread so far around the world and that there are grounds as the one tonight that raises money for cancer research,” Munn tells People.
“You know, my type of cancer, it’s an aggressive and rapidly mobile cancer, and so only, as for the past 20 years, they have discovered that endocrine therapy can help my type of cancer, and it was only discovered because of funding for research,” she says. “And so the more financing in breast cancer research, the more opportunities we must find more cures and find more ways to survival for other people who go through the same process.”
