A mayor of New Jersey has been accused of driving under the influence and jeopardizing his child after claiming to have had an almost deadly crash when she drove drunk with her 2-year-old son in the car.
Lumberton Mayor Gina Laplaca, 45, was arrested at home around 18:00 on Monday 17 March, after she admitted that the police would drink before picking up her son from daycare, Philadelphia InquirerThe WPVI and New Jersey 101.5 reported.
The mayor’s mayor was seen in video films taken by a witness who drove her 2019 BMW “independence” who swung over lanes and “almost hit a tool bar” when her child sat in the rear car seat, court document according to the withdrawals.
The police tracked the car back to the mayor’s home where she was arrested. They also found an open container with alcohol in the car, according to reports.
Laplaca was reportedly accused of ruthless driving, neglect of children and threats, driving under influence, driving with a paid license and related crimes.

The mayor’s arrest comes after she resigned from her position as a business administrator for Neptune Township because of “the changed political environment” on March 10, Ashbury Park Press reported.

Laplaca was elected to the Assembly Committee 2020. She was elected about 2023. She held her job as Neptune Township Business Administrator since January 2022, according to Asbury Park Press.
She is scheduled to show up in court on April 28 Per WPVI.
