Mom tunes hospital after 7 month-old daughter died alleged after 9-hour wait

A mother sues a hospital and claims negligence after her infant is said to have died after a nine hour wait.

Melissa Nowland takes legal action against Northern Territory Government and Royal Darwin Hospital after her daughter Lexie Mae Nowlands March 2022, according to a writing obtained by People. The Australian broadcasting company was the first to report the news.

Lexie, who previously had several heart surgery at Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, was transferred to the hospital in the northern territory for inpatient handling of her congenital heart disease in January 2022, according to the document.

After a four -day stay, the child was released, but she was submitted then in March to get her feeding tube the transition. During that time, Lexie was also treated for vomiting, fever and agitation of the hospital’s emergency department, according to the writing.

Lexie had a review planned for the following morning after she was released for that visit, but when Melissa called the hospital with concern about her daughter’s health that night, she claimed that she was recommended to just arrive at Lexie’s review early the next morning, according to the document.

The following day, however, the writing stated that Lexi “did not undergo clinical examination of a pediatric consultant until” hours later, and the infant got a cardiac arrest during that time.

Lexie was revived, but she then suffered another cardiac arrest hours later. Lexi was eventually pronounced dead that night. According to Australian crowdfunding site MycauseLexie died of sepsis meningitis.

Melissa now suits the government on behalf of herself, the child’s father and her two sisters, claiming that the hospital failed to “assess, treat and handle” Lexie’s condition and provide help for “suspected sepsis, dehydration/fluid and electrolyte disorder.”

The treatment that was given, claimed mother, “fell under a reasonable standard of care.”

In a statement to humans, a Northern Territory Health talentsman said, “because this issue is part of legal procedures, NT health cannot give comments.”

Scripture claims that “the defendant’s negligence caused or substantially contributed to the death of that deceased.”

“Due to the defendant’s negligence, the complainant has suffered nervous shock and has and will continue to suffer injury, loss and injury, including psychiatric injury,” the document continues.

Melissa also stated that the hospital “failed to appreciate” her daughter was “at risk of acute deterioration”, failed to advise her to visit the emergency department before her death and failed “to (admit) parental problem for (her) condition.”

She is correct for damage for psychiatric damage, compensation and funeral costs.
