A new mother took to Tiktok to ask if it was normal not to talk to her children and lead to a wave of criticism.

User Mak_and_momlife Published a now-erased video that was looking for input from other parents, and they did not shook away from sharing their honest thoughts.

“Like someone else not to talk to their child or child?” She started the video.

“My daughter is 11 months old and my wife and I spend most days with her together,” she explained in the video. “Today it was just me and her all day, and I realized that I sat at dinner that it was just quiet and we didn’t even talk, which she can’t talk about, but I don’t talk to her.”

“Is it strange?” she asked. “Should I say things so she can learn to talk? I sound, I’m making fun faces, I’m dancing, but I’m not talking.”

Other comments were quick to mention the scientific and developmental benefits of talking to your children, with one that adds, “Your 11 months old should already say words. Not full sentences but a few words. Children learn by talking to them.”

“Some parents feel stupid to talk to a child who can’t answer them,” Bales writes. “But your child listens to your speech and learns from it even before he can respond in his own words.”

Other puzzled users joked that they even talk to their pets.

“Girl I talk to my cat,” a user wrote. “I’ve always talked to my children even when they were still in the uterus. How can you not talk to your child? Poor Kid. It’s a way that you form a band with your child.”

Since then, the user has posted several videos that talk to his child and added more context to their original clip.
