A woman in Texas was reunited with workers in a Walmart shop after they rushed to her help when she went to work while she was on a shopping drive with her family.
On March 13, Serena Mancera, then 31 weeks pregnant, would be on bed rest because of her Previous motherA condition where the placenta blocked all or part of her cervix. But her mother explains that she “wanted a relaxed day on the beach” with her family – so the couple and their three children went to Walmart in Galveston for what would be a quick stop.
When it was time to check out, things still seemed business as usual. Serena’s husband Juan was in line while Serena took Levi, 7, Harlow, 6 and Lionel, 2, to the toilet.
But when she took a long time to come back, Juan says he went to check out things.
“A second later I saw her coming OU and the children said” Mom’s bleeding “and there was blood everywhere,” he remembers.
Serena was to work.

Five store companies and a Canadian nurse who was in the store at that time jumped into action. The nurse and a couple of store companies stopped taking care of the three older children while Juan, 27, comforted Serena, 25, waiting for the ambulance.
The trial was scary, admits the parents, but in the end they were grateful for all the help. After arriving at a nearby hospital, “JJ” was born and weighed 4 kg, 2 oz. and spent 5 weeks in Nicu before being released.
“In-laws helped with our other children so that we could spend one-to-one time with him,” says the mother. “I would stay in (The) Nicu with him on the weekends, but couldn’t be there during the week because of the other three children. It’s a relief to be home.”

Juan says that how store associations got up to help them really affected.
“These people from Walmart – they took action. It helped mentally,” says Juan, explaining that because they took care of so much, including calling the ambulance, he could focus on being there for his wife, keeping her calm and “telling her it will be ok.”
Eventually, the family was invited back to the store on Sunday, May 3 for a surprise Baby Shower – it was a surprise for Serena.
“My husband really kept it a surprise,” the mother tells people and shared that she thought they were just spent the day in Galveston.
“It’s our place to go during the summer. We usually get a hotel, stay the weekend with the children,” she explains.
After leaving, her husband said something about wanting to go to Walmart to get some baby wipes. Serena, who had not been back to that place since, admits that she “was nervous.”
But when she entered the store on Sunday, she was greeted by newborn essentials for “JJ” as well, including a stroller and diapers – and even got a reunion with some of the workers who helped her.
“The people there are like family now – they underwent a very traumatic situation with us,” she adds. “I was very grateful.”

Serena says that her three children all are happy to have some “JJ” with her. Their daughter became emotional when she found out that her brother came home from Nicu and cared for him as a “real baby doll.”
“He is doing really well since he got home – gaining weight as he should,” says Serena.
This mother’s day says the father that they will probably take their children for a beach day. He says the weather has not been “too hot”, which is “just right” for a newborn, Juan adds.
And when it comes to the future, Serena admits that they often talk about telling the child about his unique welcome to the world.
She says: “We have a story to tell this boy as he gets older – he was born on St. Patrick’s Day – he is a happy baby.”
