Mom moose attack the man and his dog while he protects calves

A Colorado’s dog must be killed after it was stamped by a mother moose that protected her two calves.

The incident occurred in the evening Monday May 26 on private property in Teller County near Woodland Park, CrewThe To day and Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed.

A man, whose name was not publicly released, reportedly tried to take his dogs in when the attack occurred. When the mother rivers went against him, he hid under a nearby vehicle.

Unfortunately, his dogmates were trampled. One was killed due to the injuries it suffered, while the other is still recovering.

Just a day before the meeting, a moose accused the man’s wife, but she entered their home before she was injured.

“This incident is a reminder of why we all warn to respect wild animals and give them their space,” said Travis Sauder, CPW Assistant Area Wildlife Manager. “We know that Colorado residents love their dogs. But it is important to understand that Moose sees dogs as predators and reacts to defend themselves and their young people.”

He continued, “this coal showed classic protective behavior in his calves. Be sure to give wildlife extra space, especially when raising their young people. And it is always best to keep dogs in a leash or in an enclosed area to reduce the chance of an incident with wildlife.”

CPW estimates approximately 3,600 moose currently living in Colorado, compared with 2,250 2013.

About two weeks before the moose attack that led to the death of the Teller County family’s dog, Paul Whitfield had lived his own close meeting with one of the animals at Manitou Lake.

CPW -Talasman Joey Livingston shared some tips on how people and wildlife can coexist.

“Generally speaking, the first week in June is when we start to see the baby deer on the ground,” he said. “And the deer will still defend their young, just like the moose like this moose did. And so if you let your dogs outside, try to go outside first and make sure there are no deer, no fawns in the area.”
