When a Maryland-based mother of two gifted her 3-year-old son a camera before her newborn daughter’s arrival, she did not know how “overwhelmingly happy” would do her.

Victoria Yost tells people that when she first heard the exciting news about her pregnancy, she and her partner wanted to make sure their son Gabriel did not feel left out.

“From the moment we found out that we were expecting, we started preparing Gabriel for the new arrival,” she says. “We were constantly talking about her and that she would play with him. Overall he was very excited.”

As it grew closer to Yost’s due date, she noticed that the child had been interested in taking pictures on his phone. With this newfound interest in photography, the dotting mother thought he might like to have his own camera.

She gifted Gabriel her own camera – shaped like a green and yellow dinosaur – the night he met his sister Elizabeth for the first time, and the recently coined big brother immediately fell in love.

“Our biggest concern was that Gabriel felt jealous of her sister,” she explains. “For the most part, we saw no change in his attitude. Having the camera helped him feel involved in a way, because he felt it was his job to take pictures.”

One night, Yost found to go through the pictures that Gabriel took and was in reverence over what she found. Gift the camera to her toddlers gave her a unique opportunity to see her first week as a “big brother” through his eyes.

“I couldn’t help but feel so overwhelmingly happy and filled with love,” she tells people. “I was shocked to see how good a little photographer he was, and it felt surreal to see things from his point of view.”

The proud mother even shared some of her son’s snaps in a video on her TiktokShare in the caption that it is “literally the best we could have received him.”

“I cry by going through these photos,” she continued to write in the caption. “Of course, I had to remove 2000 photos of his feet and roof, but these came out well.”

Yost could see all parts of his son’s first week as a brother, including the few days he spent with his grandparents before the child’s arrival. While there were several pictures she loved, she tells people that they are among some of her favorites.

“My favorite photos he took are of his grandparents while he spent a few days with them while I was in the hospital and by us when we first took the new child home,” she shares and led that there was also “one that I found where he took a picture of the child in her basic that is very valuable to me.”

“He has adjusted beautifully,” she says. “We have our little” hiccups “here and there now and then. But he always wants to be helpful, and yes, he still loves to take pictures. His camera is always at hand.”
