A missing 17-year-old boy’s family says he jumped from the State of Island Ferry and had left a note in advance.

Police said Brandon Pino has been missing since he jumped off the boat around 9:45 local time on Saturday, May 31, when the ship approached Manhattan, according to New York Daily News.

The police responded to “a 911 call for a water rescue near the State of Island Ferry Whitehall Terminal” just before 10 o’clock on Saturday, the New York Police Department’s Deputy Deputy Commissioner (DCPI) shared in a statement obtained by people.

“Officers from the first area, along with NYPD’s port unit, the Scuba team, rescue services and aviation responded to the stage and can currently refuel the waterway and the shoreline,” said spokesman.

Cathleen Pino, Brandon’s 27-year-old sister, told Daily news That her brother had posted a message on Instagram before jumping in the water.

Brandon, who lived in Port Richmond, had gone to his uncle’s house on the state of Island around 7 o’clock on Saturday and then went to St. George Ferry Terminal, said Cathleen. She added that her brother did not tell anyone about his plans.

Cathleen claimed that his brother, who was a senior at Gaynor McCown Expeditionary Learning School in New Springville, texted a group of friends concerned just before he jumped.

“His friends told me that they had seen he was (happier) than usual in school recently,” Cathleen told the newspaper. “It seems very strange because he was himself, who eats, cooked for himself, cooked his healthy food, went to the gym, went to school early, was there for his degree.”

Cathleen said that a witness informed the ferry crew of the incident when the boat docked, according to Daily news.

Cathleen said that the members of her family, especially her mother, hope to be able to regain Brandon’s body to “get some kind of closure.”

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, says DCPI talent for People.
